I understand very little more than what I did 2-3 weeks ago. I'm guessing from the D2 stand point you can throw John Battle out and thats it at this point. D1 is pretty much set imo you can pretty much go ahead and throw out Hurley, Ervinton, and Rye Cove. It just leaves one more spot to be determined a lot will determine on whether Norton turns around their season after the new year like they usually do.

The way I see it, this

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">the last place team in the regular-season standings must finish in the top three in the district tournament to meet minimum requirements for regional play</div></div>

will eliminate 4 teams right off the bat. Then again, how do you determine top three in a district tourney since no third place game is played.

Needless to say this was a bad move by the VHSL. With the old system, you know what you had to do to make the regional tournament. Now you're pretty much guaranteed a spot if you win two games in your district. Reminds me quite a bit of TN's system.

Like I said, a complete and total clusterfk.

Now there will be consolation games in the district tourney to the best of my understanding.

It would probably be simpler, whether or not its better I don't know, to do like Region C I believe and everyone gets a bid to regionals.

That would just completley make the regular season worthless. You'd think if they were going to do this they would do it like football and 4 teams in each division playing. For a total of 8 teams not 8 in each division.

IMO D1 should just be a 6 team tournament. Teams with the best two records get first round byes. It makes sense since there are no D1 teams in the CMD.

Again, like I said, nothing but a clusterfk. But do you expect anything else from the VHSL?

I agree PVFan, but you also don't get everyone complaining because one 3-17 team made regionals and another 3-16 didn't. I think the toughest part about only allowing 4 in each division is because there isn't a quality system for ranking teams.

    Re: Article on basketball divisions...

They could do a points system just like football. It's not that hard to figure out that the top 4 teams in D2 are GC/VA/Castlewood/then you got a battle between Coeburn and Lebanon imo. Coeburn won heads up so take Coeburn. Then in D1 you've got Saint Paul/Appalachia/Twin Valley/and then a close go of it for fourth go by head to head on Council/Twin Springs/etc and play it out.
